1852 Bark Barclay Whale oil sale receipt Westport A. H. Cory
The bark Barclay
was built (as a brig) in Hanover MA on the North River in 1828. The Barclay was
owned by Alexander Cory of Westport MA from 1839 until 1856
.
It had 9 whaling voyages, the last a May 1855 voyage during which
it
was lost on Cape Antonio in 1856.
Relative to this document, on Dec. 4, 1850 the Barclay
set out on a whaling voyage to the West Indies and Gulf of Mexico, returning in 1852.

The receipt is in poor condition as seen in the photos, with heavy water stains.
It measures 2.75 x 7.75
inches.
While not in good condition, the receipt  remains a rare document of whaling history
