Vintage/Antique `Rod’ Level – made by W. & L.E. Gurley of Troy, NYPatented Feb. 17, 1885
A collector’s Item. Rare.
This rod level was used by surveyors for accurate positioning (plumbing) of leveling rods and ranging poles.
It is a solid brass instrument with a leveling vial on each side of the unfolded tool.
If used on a rod, it folds 90 degrees around the rod. It can be held in place by hand – or by a rubber band stretched between the hooks on each interior side of the level (this level is missing one of the small hooks).
When folded, it measures 2” by 2 ¼”.
When open and flat, it measures 3 ½” by 2 ¼”.
It shows signs of use – can be cleaned.
