    Description

    A William McKinley signed on a notary commission, seems it is not secretarial though please see pictures. In good condition, see pics. Two pages written, measures 13 1/2 x 8 signed twice in June and July 1892 when he was governor of Ohio. Each side has a different notary commission. "O. S. Bradbury" as notary public for Meigs County, Ohio; and "Manning S. Webster" also as notary public for Meigs County, Ohio. Manning Stiers Webster (1859 – 1920) lived in Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio.
    William McKinley (1843-1901) was the 25th president of the United States from 1897 until his assassination in 1901. McKinley led the nation to victory in the Spanish-American War, Cuba war, raised protective tariffs to promote American industry, the Gold Standard Act, been one of the most successful presidents of United States history. The United States annexed the independent Republic of Hawai in 1898 and it became a United States territory. On September 6, 1901 McKinley was shot by Leon Czolgosz, a second-generation Polish-American with anarchist leanings. McKinley was an outstanding president who died eight days later and succeeded by Vice President Theodore Roosevelt who overshadow his image in history.
