Offered is an oil painting by Kiowa Five artist, Stephen Mopope (1898-1974). Featured is a superb painting of two Plains Native Americans on horseback paying homage. In its original frame, the sight size of the painting is 35 x 23 inches and the frame is 38.5 x 26.5 inches. It is signed Mopope lower right. This is a rare larger size painting by Stephen Mopope. Most of his work that comes to market are small watercolors. The painting is done on linen or canvas that is laid down on masonite board. Throughout the years Mopope painted with watercolor, gouache, tempera, and oil. To the best of our knowledge we believe this is painted with oil. The painting is slightly dirty but in overall very good vintage condition.
