    ARTIFACT:
    This is a German propaganda document about the May 7, 1915 R.M.S. Lusitania sinking off Ireland by a German U-Boat, along with two medallions, all in its original frame. One medal shows passengers buying tickets for the fated passage from a skeletal Cunard Lines clerk; the other shows the sinking of the ship, which took only eighteen minutes. The document quotes the Cologne People’s News: “With joyful pride we contemplate this latest deed of the Navy”.

    Circa World War I.

    11-15/16” height and 14-1/2” width (framed).
    CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS:
    Printed paper, cast iron medallions, wood frame, pressed board backing.
    ATTACHMENT:
    Two loops with twine.
    MARKINGS:
    KOC (?) at bottom of one medal.
